Elizabeth II, Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin attend the 70th anniversary of D-Day
At “Sword Beach”, in Ouistreham, Normandy, France, heads of states that took part in World War II in Western Europe gathered to remember June 6, 1944 D-Day landings that definitely changed the curse of the war.
From left to right on the photos, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, King Philippe of Belgium, King Willem-Alexander of The Netherlands, Polish President Bronisław Komorowski, U.S. President Barack Obama, Italian President Giorgio Napolitano, President of Slovakia Ivan Gašparovič, King Harald V of Norway , Queen Elizabeth II, French President François Hollande, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg, President of Russia Vladimir Putin, and German chancellor Angela Merkel paid respect to soldiers and civilians victims of the war that only few of them have lived.
We have also spotted U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, Prince Charles, entrepreneur Serge Dassault, former French Presidents Valéry Giscard d’Estaing and Nicolas Sarkozy, and several former and current French ministers in the assembly.
